What is a Quaker Meeting for Worship?

This is a picture of the rear entrance of the Anchorage Unitarian Fellowship. The back door entrance is used and is located off the parking lot. Typically the east door is opened at 3:45 pm each Sunday. Please come in and go upstairs to the sanctuary.

There will be a circle of chairs and normally 5-9 Friends attend Sunday afternoon meeting. If you arrive before 4:00, please join our small group and introduce yourself. If you arrive after 4:00, please come in and find a seat. At 5:00 we adjourn to the social hall for snacks and tea and to socialize.

The Anchorage Monthly Meeting has "unprogrammed" worship. Unprogrammed means:

There is no single person, such as a priest or minister, who leads our worship.

We sit quietly, in silence, waiting upon the Inward Light to inspire, to refresh, and to guide us. This is a time where individuals choose to  pray, meditate, or reflect and sit in quietness.

Occasionally individuals speak as moved. After speaking the group spends time reflecting in silence on what has been said. Often, though, we wait upon the Light, strengthening ourselves and each other in prayerful attentiveness to God.
